Part 1 | Minimum Standards of Construction of Poultry Processing Premises 3.8 Stairways 3.8.1 Stairways in processing areas should be constructed of corrosive resistant material impervious to moisture, and have solid treads, closed risers and solid side curbs. Side curbing should have a minimum height of 150mm measured at the leading edge of the tread. 3.8.2 Personnel walkways positioned over conveyor belts or any part of the processing system must be constructed of approved material and of a design that will prevent product contamination. 3.9 Windows 3.9.1 Where provided, windowsills should be not less than 1.2m from oor level. 3.9.2 Internal sills should be sloped down at a 45 degrees angle. 3.9.3 Where windows faced an area that produces noxious odours, the windows should be non-opening. 3.10 Pest Management 3.10.1 If pest management is conducted by a contractor, the operator must ensure the contractor has documented and veri ed the pest management programme. 3.10.2 If pest management is carried out “in-house”, the operator must document and implement an appropriate pest management programme for the facilities, support areas and the external environment. 3.10.3 The programme must include, but not restricted to: (a) the personnel responsible for the pest management activities; (b) the methods used to pest-proof buildings, (e.g. self- closing doors, y screens, drain traps); (c) themethodsusedineradicatingandpreventingpests from breeding; 13
