7.7 Under oor Ventilation Pipes
Where under oor ventilation pipes are provided, they should be rodent proof.
8. LOADING DOCKS
8.1 Introduction
Loading docks provide protection to product and its associated packing materials during loading and unloading at the premises.
8.2 Design Considerations
Consideration should be given to the following points:
a) The methods of handling products.
b) The heights of loading docks and truck decks.
c) Theequipmentnecessary,suchasdocklevellerstominimise
operational delays.
8.3 Location and Site
8.3.1 The loading should be convenient to the product store.
8.3.2 The loading dock should be readily accessible to the means of transport being used.
8.3.3 Suf cient space should be available along the length and in front of the loading dock to allow for the movement of transport vehicles.
8.4 Basic Construction
8.4.1 The loading dock should be provided with an awning to protect the product during loading or unloading.
8.4.2 Where unpackaged product is handled over the dock, the dock should be designed so that where possible the area is enclosed.
8.4.3 The height from the roadway to the underside of the awning should be such that all vehicles likely to be used have adequate clearance.
