MINIMUM STANDARDS OF
CONSTRUCTION OF POULTRY
PROCESSING PREMISES
1.0 SITE SELECTION AND APPROVAL
1.1 Introduction
The location and site characteristics should be such as to minimise
the impact of the development of the local community and avoid
conflicts with the natural environment and planned use in the area.
1.2 General Conditions
1.2.1 The area of the land required should be determined before
selecting the site. Space should be sufficient for such
things as bird holding pens, separate roadways, parking
areas, effluent ponds and other ancillary functions.
1.2.2 Premises should be located on a site:
a) separated by a reasonable distance from any human
habitation, public road or public place, which are likely
to cause contamination to the poultry meat on the
premises;
b) well-drained and not subject to flooding; and
c) not affected by storm water.
1.2.3 The access roadways including vehicle loading and
unloading areas should be sealed and the immediate
surroundings of the building should be treated to minimise
dust levels.
